proud mama

okay all, here's the scoop! steven has started dancing with the st joe's boys!! he wanted it to be a surprise for his papa shawn and mama angela and on tuesday night he had his first performance!! i know that previously i have talked about how steven just cannot dance and while i may still hold to that, he did a WONDERFUL job! i was so proud of him. and so was angela. (oh yeah, by the way papa shawn, frank was there to film it and will send you the film!)
i talked with steven and told him that frank had the video and whenever he said it was okay, we'd send the video to his parents. after thinking about it he told me it was okay for me to send it, so now i can post pictures!!
what a big boy!! oh, he made my heart happy!

we are two of your three day cooks. we are katia (ka tee a, but said like it's only two syllables with the stess on ka) and mme joines (madam jwa nez). if it weren't for us, the kids would be really hungry. mme joines goes to the market everyday on her way in to work to buy the produce and things that won't keep in the depot. she has 7, count them 7, children and 4 of them go to our school! they all look exactly like her.
katia, the one on your left, has one son. his name is dave. he has school in the afternoon, but comes in the morning with his mom. he plays outside until it's time for him to go to school. katia is bright and makes dave bring "play clothes" so he doesn't get his uniform dirty before school.

okay, ready? (please bear in mind that most haitians don't pose for pictures like we do. usually it's a solemn affair!) from your left to your right:
fita (feeta) is on rotation. she works with the children of the nanny who is off for the day. that means she works with ALL of your children! she is really funny and loves to pray. she loves to make the babies "talk" to me!
sra. genise (sair jen eese, sra being the proper title for an older woman and genise being her name. stress on jen.) is mama to sara, guerda, and benaldo, but like all the others she really helps with all the children. genise prays constantly and reads her bible! she LOVES this black box that mme valet is holding. my parents sent it: it's the bible spoken in creole! they listen to it almost every day.
next is mirlene who you met yesterday!
mme valet (madam val lay, like vallet parking! stess on val). how i love her! she has a wonderful laugh and loves on everyone. she was carolyn's nanny! she loves to sing while she's working, even while changing diapers. she is mama to nancy, guillanda, and hermann.
and then there's mme brunet (madam brew nay, stress on nay). she also helps cover for the nannies who are off for the day. she loves them all, but has a little extra love for bryce and joslin!

hello, my name is mirlene dauphin (pronounced "meer lon"). i am the head nannie here at angel house. i worked at the other houses too, and i love my kids like they are my own. my brother works here too, maybe you know him: jean nathan. a lot of the children who were in my care have joined their forever families. right now my kids are joslin (pictured here with me), glory, and isaiah, but really i watch them all. and all the nannies, of course!
i have been working with you-you on making sure ALL the children get a good amount of time to play outside. we also have restarted prayer time in the morning, something we feel is especially important for all the nannies to share in. and it's good for the kids too! they love singing and we love to praise the Lord!
